Our School Ethos

St. Philomena's is a school with a Catholic tradition and ethos, however, we welcome children of all faiths and backgrounds. The school recognizes the variety of differences that exist between children and the need to appreciate these and other cultural differences.

While tradition is important, we are also a progressive school and constantly strive to meet the needs of our pupils in a changing world. We are continuously engaging the children in various projects and events to increase their awareness of their role in society and to help them to achieve their own potential.

Our school team are committed to assisting parents in the education of their children.

Our Mission Statement

We the staff, parents and management of Ravenswell Primary School commit ourselves, in working together with the pupils, to promote a full human life for all and to endeavour to educate each child to his/her full potential within a safe and caring environment.
We strive to be a Christian community which gives expression to our values of love, respect and tolerance. .

School History

Founded by the Religious Sisters of Charity, St. Philomena’s Primary School, Ravenswell, has been educating the children of Bray and the surrounding areas for over 100 years. Established in the late 1800’s, the present structures were built in 1958 and extended in 1978. Countless numbers of children received their first level of education in Ravenswell. Whilst the Religious Sisters of Charity are still involved in the school as trustees, the school has been headed by lay Principal Emer Breen since September 2002.

Visit the Religious Sisters of Charity website to learn all about the history of the order and the wonderful word they are doing throughout the world.

School Staff

It takes a lot of good heads to make our school run so well, and we all work under the direction of our Principal Ms Emer Breen.  We are very happy to talk over any questions or concerns you may have as a parent in the school. Please feel free to contact the school to make an appointment to speak with them.

St Philomena's has a large staff of 17 permanent teachers working in mainstream classes and learning support positions.  There is a dedicated Home School Links teacher, David Foley, who is available as a support to parents should any issues arise during the year.

We have a full time secretary, Imelda who is happy to answer any administration questions you may have.  We have a wonderful Special Needs Assistant working with children throughout the school.  There is a full-time caretaker, James, and an excellent cleaner, Barbara, who do great work keeping the school looking lovely.

Throughout the year we have a number of teachers who come in to deliver programmes in sports, music and drama among other things.  We're a very active school, and we all work towards making your childs time here as happy and educational as possible.
