Operation Christmas Child - November 2010

We had another successful year participating in Operation Christmas Child.  Each child in the school was asked to bring in a shoebox filled with small gifts for a child in need.  The boxes were wrapped in beautiful paper and they were collected from the school to be delivered to needy children around the world.  A very special thank you to the parents and children who sent in boxes for this special cause.

Our School Garden 2009 - 2010

Under the guidance of Mrs Stone, our school have been working on our school garden since 2009. We started off wanting to do something with a waste space in our school.
The space was cleared and prepared, and now every class has their own planting box to take care of during the year.

Since then, through lots of hard work, we have made a beautiful garden. We now use the garden for planting, growing, learning and having fun. We had Diarmuid Gavin came to officially open our school garden and we all had a fanastic day.

Have a look at these before and after pictures to see just how much work we've done.

Celebrity Visitors 2009 - 2010

This year we had visits from some famous Irish people.

This year our school participated in the One Book One Community Project. Pupils and families from a number of schools around Bray all read the same book, Wilderness by Roddy Doyle. They studied it in class and discussed it at home. To celebrate the success of the Project, Davie Foley arranged for the author, Roddy Doyle, to visit the schools and answer questions about his books and his life as an author. It was a very interesting visit, enjoyed by all.

We also had a visit from Diarmuid Gavin to officially open our school garden. As we had worked so hard it was very important to have a special garden opening ceremony. Diarmuid Gavin is the spokesman for the Myasthenia Gravis Ireland organsation. We held a non-uniform day to raise money for the organisation and they donated daffodil bulbs which we all planted.
At our opening ceremony we presented a cheque to Diarmuid for the money we fundraised.
He planted a tree, and we all had a wonderful day.

Roddy Doyle talks about writing.

Our Halloween Music Day

We went down to the hall to have a music day.  Una came in to play instruments with us, to sing songs and to dance.  We were all dressed up for Halloween.  It was a great day.

 2007 - 2008

Christmas 2007

We had a lovely Christmas in St Philomena's this year, and a very busy one.  Every class put on a Christmas concert and all the parents were invited.  We also had a special visitor.  Santa went to visit every class and brought a little gift for every child and teacher.  As every other year, we took part in the Christmas Shoebox appeal.  We had a really wonderful time.

International Week (March 2008)

Every year we have an International Week to celebrate the diverse range of cultures in our school.  During the week we invite parents and children to share aspects of their culture with the other pupils in the school.  There are workshops all week covering various topics such as food from different countries, art and craft activities, story telling, games and this year we even had some yoga.  Here are some of the photos from this year's International Week.
